    Ayodhya Hill

    Ayodhya Hills is a hill located in the Purulia district. It is a part of the Dalma Hills and extended part of Eastern Ghats range. Highest peak of Ajodhya Hills is Gorgaburu. The nearest populated town is Bagmundi. It is a popular place for young mountaineers to learn the basic course in rock climbing. There are two routes available to reach Ajodhya Hills. One is via Jhalda and the other one is via Sirkabad. There is a Forest Rest House here. Gorgaburu (855 m), Mayuri etc. are of the some of the peaks of Ajodhya hills range. The area forms the lowest step of the Chota Nagpur Plateau. The general scenario is undulating land with scattered hills. The area around Bagmundi or Ajodhya Hill is an extended plateau.

    How to reach

    Ayodhya Hill is about 260 km from Kolkata, 42 km from Purulia town. Durgapur Expressway connects Purulia to Kolkata. Several trains to Purulia are available from Howrah. Buses are also available from Kolkata.

    Garpanchkot

    Garpanchkot

    Situated at the foothill of Panchakot (panchet hill), in the north east corner of the Purulia District,close to the boundary with district Burdwan and JharKhand.Hilltop offers picturesque and panoramic view of the command area of the Panchet dam on Damodar River and its reservior. Bird watching on Panchet dam is a treat to the eye.

    How to reach

    Tourists travelling by train, get down at the stations of Barakor or Asansol and take a trekker to cover an hour long path to reach Gar Panchakat. Can also take the car route by driving along the National Highway 2. After crossing Asansol, turn left and takes the road leading to Raghunathpur. After reaching the Satbari stop, destination is few km away by the village path.

    Joychandi Hill

    A major attraction for ardent rock climbers, Joychandi Pahar (Hill) is still a pretty unexplored entity. The hill is named after Chandi Ma (Goddess Chandi). A small temple dedicated to her stands on top of this hill. There are a number of small lakes and an abandoned tower nearby, which apparently was used by dacoits in older days. One has to climb 400 steps to reach the top, which can be taxing. Since the area is quite dry and barren, you wouldn't find any source of drinking water. The place remains quite hot, and is at a significant distance from the nearest village, so please carry plenty of water with you.

    How to reach

    To reach this place one has to take a bus from Purulia to Raghunathpur. There are hardly any lodging facilities, but you will get some quick bites at the roadside restaurants. Tuk-tuks will take you till the start of the trek. Please set a time with the driver to pick you up froom here as you won't find any public conveyance here.

    Cheliama

    Cheliama is considered as one of the most popular destinations in Purulia. It has a rich history and is also known as a paradise for historians and archaeologists. The village has remnants of civilization in the region dating to the 17th century. Temple's aroud the village are good example of the architecture, artistry and culture of their eras and this is seen in the figurines and carvings in these temples. Apart from this, the renowned Radha-Govinda Temple in Cheliama attracts many tourists. One of the famous tourist spots in Purulia, Cheliama is a paradise for historians and archeologists, thanks to its rich history. The village has remnants of the contemporary civilization of the 17th century. The terracotta figurines and exclusive carvings around the temples vouch for the fact that the village had been an important landmark during the yesteryears. Apart from this, the well-known Radha-Govinda Temple in Cheliama attracts a mass of tourists and is a focal place, depicting the Bengali culture prevalent in the contemporary era.

    Para is a popular tourist destination and also a village that is known to have heralded the arrival of Muslims to the east. The district is home to two pre-Muslim deuls; one is in sync with the temple in Deulghat and the other belongs to a later period. Both of them prove to be good examples of the architecture and artistry of their ages. The inheritance buildings remind one of the bygone eras. Para is an excellent tourist spot and also a village that reminds you of the advent of Muslims to the east. The region houses two pre-Muslim deuls - while one is in sync with the temple in Deulghat, the other belongs to a later period. Both of them prove to be excellent examples of the grand architecture and fine cravings employed in the yesteryears. Though almost a century old now, these relics have a beauty of their own. The heritage buildings would surely take tourist to the former era.

    Deulghat is considered as a land of temples. The place is home to approximately 15 temples that are close to the Kansai River. This region is known for the architecture and the intricacy in carvings and decorations in its temples. Deulghat, keeping up to its name, is the land of temples. The place is home to about 15 temples near the Kansai River. The awe-striking architecture of the temple, coupled with graceful carvings, is one of the prime reasons why Deulghat is one of the favorite spots to visit in Purulia. The temple reflects the traditional culture of the contemporary people. Though there is nothing but ruins left in the temple, Deulghat still continues to be an important tourist center.

    The Matha Buru is slopes known for stylish excellence. There is a “Mela” on the slope by tribal groups. The camp and Rock climbing courses directed by the distinctive association generally around winter season. The number of camp is 31 and more than 2000 school and college students took part. Forest protection committee individuals are providing food to camp and some of them go as neighborhood aides.

    Baghmundi

    Baghmundi is a small community development block located in the administrative division of Purulia. Every year thousands of tourists visit this place to witness the natural beauty of the magnificent Ayodhya Hills and the many dams. The picturesque landscape here consists of undulating hills, cascading waterfalls, lush green forests with rich variety of flora and fauna. Travelers can get a variety of experience from historical and archeological sites to eco tourism. Ayodhya Hill, not very far from Baghmundi, is of immense mythological significance to the Hindus. It is believed that Lord Ram with his wife Sita had come to Ayodhya Hill during their exile. Lord Ram had pierced the earth with his arrow to bring out a gush of water to quench Sita's thirst. From then, this place has been named Sita-kunda.On a Baisakhi full moon day, tribals from surrounding villages assemble here to join the game of hunting animals.They hunt small animals like rabbits and jungle hen.

    How to reach

    There is no railway station near to Baghmundi in less than 10 km. However Bokaro Steel City Rail Way Station is major railway station 55 km near to Baghmundi.

    Baranti

    Baranti is a small, quiet and scenic place. There is a 2 km long irrigation project dam, located between two small hillocks, Muradi Hill and Baranti Hill. Baranti is in the vicinity of Ramchandrapur Irrigation Project. One gets a grand view of the reservoir from Baranti. It is a place where one can take a break from drudgery and daily monotony and simply rejuvenate one's mind and soul. It is part of the wonderful Rarh countryside. Baranti is also a picnic spot where people from nearby areas come for a day-long picnic.

    How to reach

    Have to get down at Muradi Station via Asansol. From there, tourist can avail a rickshaw or trekker to reach Boranti just 6 km away. In case traveling by car need to get off the highway and enter Asansol and then, drive straight towards Ramchandrapur. The distance between the city and Muradi more (crossing) on road is around 15 km. Next, need to drive along the village road that leads to Baranti.

Khairabera Lake is situated in Purulia District, West Bengal, India.Road Distance or driving distance from Purulia to Khairabera Dam is 67 kms. This is an Irrigation Dam amidst slopes and woods at Baghmundi. It is a very charming spot which appeals visitors to visit here. Bamni falls is one of the significant attractions of this spot.     Tugga and Bramni falls near Baghmundi are favorite picnic spots. These dams are set in picturesque locales. The area is covered by tall Sal trees which bear testimony to the history of the place. The rich flora is the home to many varieties of birds. This is a perfect place to enjoy a lazy day with family and friends.

    It is a tribal town. The spot can be reached via auto from both Purulia and Jharkhand stations. To visit Kenkechi Hill, Murguma Dam Lake and woods are beneficial. The winter season is perfect for them who appreciate cold evenings. Visiting the spot in the winter season adequate warm garments should be brought as the temperature after nightfalls floats around 5 to 6 degree Celsius during evening it drops down to 3 degree Celsius. The dam is very deep. The visitors who does not know how to swim they should avoid. It is a very nice experience in your life if you visit at full moon night. Trek through jungle to a neighbouring tribal village or walk to a hill top is very much enjoyable for its surrounding greenery.

    Duarsini

    Just 13 km from Burdwan in the Puruliya district, Duarsini is a small tribal village. The whole attraction of this village lies in its picturesque setting surrounded by rolling hills and lush greenery of the Dalma Hills. Wildlife enthusiasts will especially love this place as the Dalma Forest contains a plethora of wildlife like bears, wolves, boars and many known and unknown bird species. Sometimes one can even spot elephants coming out of the forest into Duarsini. A wonderful way to relax and unwind is to spend some quiet time on the banks of the Satgurang River that flows past Duarsini. This is a perfect getaway if you are tired of all the touristy and crowded places. At night you will hear the rhythmic beats of madol(drums), reverberating in the air. There are a number of tribal villages in the area pertaining to Santhals, Shabaradh, Kheriya and Munda tribes.This place has no electricity and no accommodation facilities except for 3 cottages run by West Bengal Forest Department. The cottages resemble traditional tribal cottages.

    Saheb Bandh is a 50 acre lake in Purulia, that is known to have been constructed in the mid 19th century. It is said this water body was dug by convicts, at the instigation of Colonel Tikley, during the British Raj. This process was started in the year 1843 and took five years for it to be completed. Now, Saheb Bandh is also considered as a home for migratory birds. During the migratory season, birds fly from Baluchistan, Siberia and several places in Europe, to this place. Thus, for local birdwatchers, Saheb Bandh is a popular retreat. A 50-acre lake, Saheb Bandh poses as one of the most enigmatic locations in Purulia. Talking about the history of the place, it is believed to have been built during the mid-19th century. It is believed that convicts, at the instigation of Colonel Tikley, dug this water body. They started the process in the year 1843. It took five years for the water body to be constructed. Today a beautiful and mesmeric location, Saheb Bandh also acts as a temporary home for migratory birds.

    A popular picnic spot for travellers, Surulia has been developed by the forest department and is popular amongst eco tourists.

    How to reach

    Just 6 km away from the main town, the Eco Park is located on the bank on the bank of the river Kangsabati, it has a deer park and tourism cottage inside and it is visited in huge numbers by the visitors.
